Huge congratulations to Delta Secondary Student, Leila Pourshahriary. At the end of May, after competing against the best baking students across Canada at the 2022 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), Leila won the gold medal in Baking at the Secondary level.
Leila advanced to the National Competition after winning the BC Provincial Skills Canada Baking competition in April.
“Leila has worked really hard and demonstrated amazing talent with her baking,” said Lori Pilling, Culinary and Baking Teacher at Delta Secondary School. “I think she has a great future ahead of her in this field. I am hoping to help her find a Baking apprenticeship and I am encouraging her to research educational opportunities for baking abroad.”
The national competition took place at the Vancouver Convention Centre and was attended by approximately 350 students and apprentices from across the country. They competed for the title of national champion in more than 45 Skills Areas and evaluated based on strict industry standards.
The goal of SCNC is to engage Canadian youth and promote all of the exciting and lucrative careers that are available to them in the skilled trades and technologies. It is the only national multi-trade and technology event of its kind for young students and apprentices in the country.
