Air Quality Advisory for the Region

Category: DistrictSchool

Metro Vancouver Regional District has issued a special air quality statement for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley because of high concentrations of fine particulate matter, primarily due to smoke from wildfires burning in B.C.

We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that schools continue to be safe environments for staff and students. Air quality may vary from community to community within Delta. Schools are asked to avoid strenuous activities outdoors. They may also consider indoor recess and lunch supervision for all students.

Principals will make decisions based on local conditions. They may introduce the following measures:

  • Allowing students who are sensitive to the smoke to remain indoors during lunch/breaks;
  • Closing exterior doors and windows and utilizing filtered ventilation systems;
  • Rescheduling outdoor activities, particularly strenuous activities like PE;
  • Closely monitoring students with asthma or other breathing conditions.

Parents who are concerned about their child’s well-being when the air quality is poor should contact their school.
