Today, 15 courageous students graduated from the third annual Delta Fire Youth Academy, a week-long program that offers Delta students an immersive firefighting experience. Throughout the week, they engaged in hands-on firefighting drills, including scaling ladders, rolling fire hoses, fighting fires, cutting open cars, and rappelling down buildings.
The week concluded with the students showcasing their newly acquired skills to their families and school district staff, followed by a formal presentation celebrating their achievements.
This annual program, held at Boundary Bay Fire Hall #4, is a collaboration between Delta Fire & Emergency Services, Delta Firefighters Association Local 1763, the City of Delta, and the Delta School District. It aims to highlight the firefighting profession and provide students with a glimpse into a potential career in emergency services. The program fosters leadership, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.
