Today a message from Delta School District and Delta Police went home to Delta secondary school parents about new information regarding pills that were purchased illicitly as Xanax, and have been found to contain Fentanyl. These fake Xanax pills were confiscated from a Delta student.
Delta School District takes the health and safety of all our students very seriously.
“This is extremely concerning information and as such, we felt it was essential to share this with our parent and extended community,” Jen Hill, District Spokesperson. “We would like to encourage parents to have a conversation with their children about the dangers of taking any drug that is illegally purchased. It should be assumed that all illicit drugs contain Fentanyl, and therefore have the potential to be fatal.”
Delta School District staff has been working very closely with Delta Police to communicate to our students and parents on the increasing risks around illicit substance use.
Over the past few weeks, Delta School District has held two parent information sessions on cannabis/THC edibles, and vaping.
Our DPD Student Liaison officers have visited every Grade 8 classroom in Delta and presented on the increasing dangers of fentanyl, using presentations created by The Odd Squad: https://oddsquad.com/
An information bulletin on Xanax and Fentanyl has recently been shared with parents as well.
In conjunction with the message home to parents, District staff are working with DPD on a message that will be read directly to students by teachers in their classrooms before the holidays.
As well, in partnership with Fraser Health, each secondary school in Delta will receive a Nasal Narcan (Naloxone) kit in the next few days.
NOTE: Given that there is an active police investigation surrounding this situation, we cannot share any further details at this time.
